Swimming Pool Maintenance - Tips to Help You Keep Your Pool Clean

Backyard Pool maintenance is something that must be done on a regular basis. As a pool owner, it is your responsibility to make sure you take care of your pool, no matter the temperature outside. If pool maintenance is put off, your swimming pool can start to develop bacteria and algae, which will cause it to become an unsafe environment.

At Pool Specialists, we want to make sure that you have all the information you need to take care of your home pool maintenance. There are certain aspects that you can focus on to make sure that your pool stays clean all year long in Raleigh:

  • Pool chlorine: Having the proper chlorine level in your pool protects your pool from forming algae because chlorine is responsible for killing any algae that begins to grow. It is only recommended that you keep your chlorine level between 1ppm and 3ppm due to chlorine’s toxicity.
  • Pool pH: Your pool’s pH level will tell you how acidic your pool water is. A low number means your pool is acidic and a high number means the water is more alkaline. An ideal pool pH level is between 7.2 and 7.6. Keep your pH level between this range and you won’t have to worry about algae growing in your pool. If you are dealing with a pool pH level above 7.8, then you need to add some muriatic acid or sodium bisulfate to even out your pool’s pH.
  • Algaecides: Algaecides are a wonderful pool maintenance solution to keep algae from growing in your pool. A chemical commonly found in algaecides, potassium tetraborate, will stop the algae from multiplying by interrupting its process of photosynthesis.
  • Pool lining cleaning: Has algae begun to form on the lining of your pool? Regular brushing with either a steel brush or soft scrub brush will keep algae from growing on the inside of your pool.
